Security experts are unemployed because of Vista
High-end security features integrated into a wide range of new Microsoft products could make some security researchers turn to other areas.
That is the message that professional security experts bring to BlueHat Conference held last weekend at the headquarters of software company in the world. BlueHat is a conference held by Microsoft to facilitate security experts to get closer to its product development experts.
Pedram Amini, director of security research at security firm Tipping Point, said: ' A gloomy future is opening up for our security products. Microsoft has given the application a lot of technology that was previously used only by security researchers in Windows Vista, making many third-party security applications redundant . '
For example, Mr. Amini said Microsoft Office is now almost "immune" to fuzzing software detection techniques. Not only that, but Microsoft has also put more effort into fighting this technique, making many security companies' fuzzing applications ineffective with Office 2007.
A well-known security researcher known by the name Halvar Flake claims that Windows Vista is the most closed-source operating system on the market today. ' That's why I think security researchers will be' taking a break 'for a while and moving to the security of other third-party applications installed on Vista. '
But Dan Kaminksy, director of intrusion testing services of IOActive Inc, security experts will be hard to rest just because Vista and Office 2007 have become too secure. Deadly security weaknesses still exist on web applications and other technologies such as virtualization technology. Security experts will find a new direction and will focus on other technologies.
According to Mr. Kaminsky, the BlueHat Conference shows that Microsoft is increasingly opening its doors to welcome more secure researchers. It is also a testament to Microsoft's new direction. Now the company has seen security as a technical issue. This means that Microsoft will integrate collaboration with more security experts, focusing on security issues even further.
