Sharp mass-produced green laser disk reader

Japanese electronics firm Sharp said it has begun mass-producing green laser disk readers (blue-laser diodes) with the aim of contributing to lower prices for Blu-ray and HD-DVD players.

The production of green laser heads was officially launched by Sharp in November, said Sharp's Miyuki Nakayama.

In the first phase, Sharp will launch mainly the green laser optical disc products exclusively for read-only players. By the end of 2007 Sharp had just started producing high-end green laser optical disc players for recorders.

The disk reader - also known as the god eye - is the most important part of optical disc players, including next-generation optical discs using green lasers or existing optical drives.

Although many companies have made significant strides in the production of next generation optical disc players, there are still many technological barriers that prevent mass production of products. there.

Currently, the number of next generation optical disc players such as Sharp is still only counted on the fingers. Therefore, Sharp's new breakthrough is expected to help reduce the price of next-generation optical player products.
