Shock with the number of meteors that could hit Earth in the next 100 years

The European Space Agency (ESA) recently assessed the number of meteorites that are likely to hit Earth in the next 100 years.

According to the Daily Mail, the number of ESA is up to 878 meteors and this is considered a very large number. ESA emphasizes that even small meteors can cause great disaster.

NASA and ESA scientists will meet from September 13 to discuss how to deal with asteroid disaster.

ESA and the US space agency (NASA) will meet in Europe in the next few days to discuss how to develop technology to help change the orbits of meteorites.

Recently, NASA also issued a warning about a meteorite as large as the Empire State building in the US, will fly close to Earth this week.

Asteroid 2000 QW7 will fly over Earth at a distance considered to be very close, only 5.3 million km, at a speed of 22,000 km / hour. This meteorite is from 951-2,113 meters in size.

It is estimated that nearly 900 meteors could hit Earth in the next 100 years.

ESA said: "Although asteroids colliding with the Earth is not a thing that happens overnight, but the next 100 years will be very likely."

The first meeting between ESA and NASA will take place on September 13 in Rome, discussing the construction of a spacecraft to crash directly into meteorites that could threaten the Earth. The target chosen for testing is the Didymos meteorite, which is 160 meters long.

ESA and NASA staff will continue to meet next week in Munich and the last two will take place on September 16-17.

"These meetings play an important role in efforts to minimize the risk of the impact of meteorites, ensuring that people have time to prepare and build defenses if the disaster cannot be avoided ," ESA said.
