Sichuan again deadly earthquake

Yesterday afternoon, a magnitude 6 seismic tremor shook Sichuan Province, western China, killing one person and injuring 23 people.

The epicenter is located almost 10 km underground in the area 50 km away from Guangyuan city. People in Thanh Xuyen district were afraid to leave their houses and spread out to the streets when the ground shook. The only case of death was the person who lived in this district.

The latest seismic impact also on Hanzhong and Xian cities of neighboring Shaanxi Province. People in Chongqing central city also felt this earthquake.

The earthquake occurred just hours after the Olympic torch relay was held in Chengdu's capital city of Sichuan. This is the last stop of the Summer Olympic torch relay in China, before it was transferred to Beijing to open the Olympics on August 8.

Earlier on May 12, Sichuan suffered a historic earthquake that killed nearly 70,000 people and 5 million people lost their homes. Since then the area suffered thousands of aftershocks. Most recently, the aftershock occurred on Friday last week, injuring more than 200 people.
