Singer Beyonce is named after a fly
This may not be the proudest honor for an attractive pop singer Beyonce, when the name of this young mother is taken for a fly.
Just days after the singer and actress gave birth to a girl, Australian scientists announced on Friday that they had named a rare 'Horsefly' species from northern Queensland after her name. The reason is that the lower abdomen of this fly is yellow like Beyonce's hair color!
And so, researcher Bryan Lessard of the CSIRO Institute joked that the fly deserves to be classified as the "fly of all time".
This fly of the Scaptia (Plinthinia) strain , discovered in 1981 in the state of Queensland, was also the birth year of former member Destiny's Child, but was never named.
Although often thought of as a destructive insect, many of the Horsefly family are important agents for flower pollination, according to Lessard.
Meanwhile, 30-year-old singer Beyonce and her partner, rapper Jay-Z, welcomed the birth of the girl Blue Ivy on Saturday night in New York.
