South Korea confirmed the first Zika infection

South Korea's Yonhap reported on March 22 that the government announced the first detection of Zika virus in the country.

The Korean Center for Disease Control said the country's first case of Zika infection was a male, 43 years old and Brazilian.

Zika virus spread by Aedes aegypti mosquito . This is also an intermediary for transmission of dengue fever. The strong growth environment of Aedes aegypti is tropical, including Southeast Asian countries.

Scientists say, there is growing evidence that Zika causes microcephaly in newborns when mothers are infected with the virus during pregnancy. A small head causes serious disfigurement of the infant's brain, causing them to be born with a smaller head than usual.

Brazil was the first country to warn of the association between Zika and small headaches in newborns. Brazil is also the country most affected by the disease, with about 1.5 million cases of infection and 641 babies born with birth defects at the beginning. In addition to Aedes aegypti mosquitoes, it is suspected that Zika virus can be transmitted through other pathways, including sex.
