On an island off the coast of Madagascar, Greg Wahlert - Ph.D. botanist from the University of Utah has discovered a new flower up to 1.5 meters tall and blooms once a year with an immense stench featured.

Biology professor Lynn Bohs described this scent as a combination of 'rotting smell of dead animal bodies' and 'fecal odor'.

The new finding adds to the number of about 170 species in the genus Amorphophallus, which in Greek means 'distorted penis tree' , derived from the 'precious' part of the man.

It was named A. Perrieri , collected by Wahlert from two remote islands in northwest Madagascar in 2006 and 2007.

Suspecting that this might be a new species, he brought it to the trial plant. After consulting with an expert in the study of Amorphophallus in the Netherlands, he confirmed that A. perrieri was a previously unknown species.

In addition to the peculiar shape of the species, the species in the Amorphophallus group produce a terrible smell that attracts flies and other insects. When the fermented flies come near, they will be captured alive and turned into a ' favorite ' dish . It all makes it one of the most rare and exotic flowers on this planet.

And although it is arguably the least aesthetically pleasing plant, they still make it into the list of flowers that people love.
