Researchers say this fear may be due to some similarities between holes and toxic animal images.
"Trypophobia is the most common obsession you have never heard , " LiveScience quoted Gepff Cole, a psychologist at Esssex University, said.
In one study, Cole and colleagues found that 16% of participants showed signs of trypophobia.
To investigate toxic creatures that could cause obsession, Cole and his colleagues analyzed images of blue octopus, cobra and spider . Reaction created Trypophobic phenomenon according to researchers. Can be a side effect of an evolutionary adaptation to avoid toxic animals.
"Having an evolutionary innate instinct helps to be alert to things that might harm us , " Cole said.
