Analysis of the new spider reveals it originated in the Mexican valley region. When discovered, the researchers mistook the creature for another related species, Loxosceles misteca, living in the states of Guerrero and Morelos, Mexico.

Professor Valdez-Mondragon, who led the team, said the spider attacks humans with bites that are dangerous if they feel threatened.

Experts also said that the spider can be prevented by keeping the house neat and tidy , removing items that can turn into hiding places for insects.

Mexico is the country with the highest diversity of spiders. An estimated 40 species of the genus Loxosceles of the 140 species in the world are native to this country.
