Strong earthquake two consecutive days in the Pacific, causing tsunami warnings

The magnitude-6.9 magnitude earthquake rocked off the Solomon Islands, a day after another major earthquake, raising the risk of tsunamis.

The quake shook at 6:10 (2:10 am Hanoi time), located 90 km west of Kirakira, in Solomon, at a depth of 10 km, the US Geological Survey (USGS) said.

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said there was no tsunami threat from the earthquake, but then predicted a tsunami of 1 - 3m high above the tidal range along some of Solomon's coasts.

The center warns of 0.3-meter waves of waves along the coasts of Australia, Fiji, Kiribati, Nauru, New Caledonia, Papua New Guinea, Tuvalu and Vanuatu.

USGS said that it is unlikely that earthquakes cause death and physical damage.

This battle occurred just a day after the 7.7-magnitude earthquake off the islands, shaking strongly and tsunami warnings were broadcast, but no serious damage was reported.

Solomon Islands is located on the Fire Ring in the Pacific, where there are more than 400 volcanoes and fault lines that frequently create earthquakes. In 2007, an earthquake of 8 Richter scale in Solomon Islands killed 52 people, hundreds of people lost their homes when creating a tsunami of 10m high.
