Super-fast optical chip
At the Fiber Communications Conference held in Los Angeles, USA, IBM experts presented an excellent study called Holey Optochip. It is the first prototype prototype that can transceiver optical data in parallel with the ability to transmit 1,000 billion bits of data per second (or 1 tetrabit).

With the above speed we can download 500 high-quality movies to the computer in 1 second; collect all data of the US Congress library in just 1 hour. In other words, Optochip is 8 times faster than any existing parallel optical component. If it is a high-speed internet connection of 10Mb / s now, Optochip will be able to serve 100,000 people at the same time. One of the unique features is that Optochip can transmit data at the same time so it can establish the record above.
The name Holey comes from the fact that researchers used a standard silicon silicon chip but drilled into 48 holes. This allows optical access to the surface, where 24 channels and 24 receive channels are separate. Each channel is served by its own dedicated VCSEL and optical splitter for data transceiver.
The components of Optochip are electronic components available on the market, thus reducing costs on the production model. Also when operating, each chip consumes less than 5 watts, if 20 devices work at the same time, the amount of power consumed is only 1 100 watt light bulb.
