Tallest tree in the world

According to Australian forestry officials, the world's tallest tree was discovered in a national forest in the state of Tasmania, south of the country.

Bob Gordon, Tasmania state forestry chief, said it was an eucalyptus tree, called Centurion, 100-101m tall, the tallest tree in Australia to date.

Centurion, with a diameter of 4.05m wide, is found in a national forest near the Tahune Airwalk resort, about 80km southwest of Tasmania's capital Hobart.

"This is the only woody tree in the world today known to be over 100 meters tall," Gordon said. It is also an eucalyptus tree and is the tallest flower plant in the world. To measure its height, one must use a laser device.

Grows next to Centurion tree also has a second giant tree also belongs to eucalyptus family, called Triarius, with a height of 86.5m, a diameter of 3.9m.
