The 25,000-year-old painting

The Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences magazine on November 7 published a 25,000-year-old painting of ancient black-spotted white horses.

According to scientists, this is the oldest painting ever to describe the artistic awareness of the ancient people.

The painting is called "The Dappled Horses of Pech-Merle" depicting black-spotted white horses sketched on a wall in a cave in France.

However, while many evidence of DNA analysis from prehistoric horse bones shows that they are black and brown in color, the appearance of spotted horses like cheetahs is special.

Many scientists consider the image of animals in the painting to be a kind of symbol or religious value.

Recently, researchers led by Dr. Arne Ludwig of the Leibniz Wildlife Research Institute in Berlin analyzed DNA samples from 31 horse fossils collected across Europe, from Siberia to the peninsula. Iberia. The results showed that there were 6 mutant samples that produced white and black spots.

Dr. Ludwig says that three different colors - black, brown and speckled - show the richness of color in ancient horse populations.

Although today, spotted horses are not a strange species, but scientists do not think they appear before the domestication of humans about 5,000 years ago on the prairie region between Ukraine and Kazakhstan today.
