Polar night phenomenon occurs in some areas of Alaska, Canada, Greenland, Finland, Russia and Sweden. Utqiagvik is the northernmost American city and is located north of the Arctic Circle. Therefore, the phenomenon of Sun disappearing a few days in winter is not unusual. During this period, the Sun never rose above the horizon. Near the northernmost, the day is getting longer and longer in summer and shorter in winter, experts explain.

The people of Utqiagvik will see a bit of sunshine at dusk, when the Sun is about 6 degrees below the horizon. Twilight lasts about 6 hours and will drop to three hours in the middle of the polar night. During this time, the temperature may drop to -10 degrees C.

Alaska people are very familiar with polar nights. Some even held a party on the night of the polar night to start or share interesting images of this period on social networks.

Polar night or polar night is the time when the night lasts more than 24 hours, usually takes place inside the polar rings in the winter at that hemisphere.
