The baby was the first 'gene design' in Europe

Boys in the UK are the first cases in Europe to be born without the risk of 200 diseases by eliminating genetic disorders.

Amaze your baby with "gene" design

Carmen Neagu, 27, has inherited Charcot-Marie-Tooth (CMT) muscular dystrophy from her father and is at risk of transmission to her children at a rate of 50%. However, she and her husband Gabriel, 31, were fortunate to be selected as the first couple to receive the new karyomapping treatment (chromosomal analysis technique) at a hospital in London, England. This special process can identify about 200 embryonic genetic problems, including Down's disease.

Karyomapping involves taking cells from embryos created by in vitro fertilization . Gathering and comparing DNA samples from parents and family members, experts control gene sequences at 300,000 specific locations on chromosomes. As a result, they can detect genetic code that can cause illness . After the test, embryos that do not show genetic symptoms will be selected for implantation.

Carmen and Gabriel's son was born in Southend Hospital last December by in vitro fertilization. With the adoption of new technology, a 5-month-old boy is completely "immune" to about 200 genetic disorders that can be dangerous.

A genetic laboratory in the US is said to have successfully implemented karyomapping earlier this year, but information about the birth date and characteristics of the child is not published.

The form of pre-implant genetic diagnosis has been proven to be high cost and time consuming. Meanwhile, karyomapping only lasts two weeks.
