The tomb was first excavated in 1997, in an ancient cemetery in the city of Irkutsk, near the southern tip of Lake Baikal.

In the 2012 project, archaeologist Angela Lieverse of the University of Saskatchewan, Canada, identified inside the tomb as a woman of about 20-25 years old and a child. However, after that, they identified two twins."In about 5 minutes, I told my colleagues that, Lord, this is the twins , " Lieverse said.

The fetal bone is located around the pelvic area and between the mother's thighs. Through analysis, the expert team placed them in the abdomen in the breech position. The child lying upside down can be stuck with his brothers in the womb, causing death for both mother and child.

According to Live Science, this finding may be the oldest trace ever confirmed about birth twins in history, and is one of the earliest evidence of a miscarriage and maternal death. In archeological records, birth and twins are rare.

In Irkutsk, 101 remains discovered to date are those who lived in a community of hunters and gatherers more than 7,000 years ago.
