The close relationship between the EQ and IQ index

(new study) - A new study shows that emotional intelligence and intelligence can be more closely related than previously thought.

According to the IQ test (intelligence index) and EQ (emotional index - the ability to perceive, understand and regulate feelings of themselves or others) of a group of Vietnamese veterans These two indicators are related. Brain scan results also show that the same brain regions seem to perform both emotional and cognitive functions. New findings have been published in Social Cognitive & Affective Neuroscience.

'To some extent, the mind depends on basic cognitive abilities, such as concentration, perception, memory and language , ' said researcher Aron Barbey from the University of Illinois. 'But it also depends on interaction with others. Basically, people are social animals, our understanding is not only related to basic cognitive abilities but also related to the effective use of these abilities in situations. to be able to regulate social life and understanding others'.

Previously, scientists believed that emotional intelligence and intelligence were clearly different.

But Barbey and his colleagues questioned whether emotional intelligence and intelligent index are tied together? To answer this question, the team used the results of the emotional index and the intelligent index test of 152 Vietnamese veterans. The group found that IQ increased with the emotional index.

Next, the researchers conducted brain scans of veterans. These people have been hurt in different areas of the brain, so researchers have drawn a brain map and broken it down into different regions. They then compared the results of the EQ and IQ test between those who were injured and not injured for each segment of the brain.

People with injuries in the anterior and parietal lobes of the brain have defects in both emotional intelligence and intelligence. The front lobe plays an important role in controlling behavior, planning and memory, while the parietal lobe plays a role in language awareness.

So the study shows that intelligence and social understanding are bound to each other.
