The curious life of conjoined twins 200 years ago

Born in 1811, the conjoined twins Chang and Eng Bunker were thought to be "strange", still married and had a total of 21 children.

In 1843, Chang and Eng married their sisters Adelaide and Sarah Yates, two daughters of a local landlord. Their marriage had a violent reaction from the community, even being accused of "animalistic marriage" . For their part, both couples live normally in individual houses. The two brothers took turns in two houses with their wives. They gave birth to a total of 21 children in which Chang had 10 children, his younger brother gave birth to 11 children. There are no details about how the two couples are in love, but their first children were born six days apart, and a couple of children were born eight days apart. Despite public opinion, the two families still live together in solidarity with their children and grandchildren.

In 1870, Chang suffered a stroke that paralyzed the right side of his body. Eng took good care of his brother. However, Chang still had to use crutches and his brother's help in his daily activities. Later, Chang's health weakened and he died in early 1874. Two and a half hours after his brother's death, Eng left.

The doctors initially assumed that Eng died because of the fear of the death of his twin brother. The autopsy then showed that both of their bodies share blood vessels and arteries. The twins share the lungs, so Eng died of blood loss.
