The dead are about to be buried as 'natural decay' in Washington

The people of Washington state may be the first people in the United States to be allowed to handle dead bodies in the form of natural decay or cremation in an alkaline solution to limit harm to the environment.

According to the Seattle Times , the state's legislators voted to pass SB5001 bill, legalizing the use of "hydrolysis burial" method in alkaline and natural decay for dead bodies. These two choices are less polluting than burial or cremation.

According to Independent newspaper, the bill was introduced in the context that more and more people are interested in how to deal with the body when we die. Proponents of the bill say they like the idea of the body returning to motherland and becoming a nutrient for soil and plants as the ancient way.

The bill was passed on April 19 by the Washington State Senate, and within 5 days, state governor Jay Inslee will make the final decision on whether to put a pen.

If approved, SB5001 will take effect from May 1, 2020. Mr. Inslee is a strong advocate of environmental issues.

According to US Senator Jamie Pedersen, who strongly supports the hydrolysis method in alkaline , this method is cheaper than burial about $ 2,000, but more importantly less harmful to the environment.

The birth of the bill is the contribution of Katrina Spade, a designer and entrepreneur in Seattle. In 2014, she initiated the Urban Burial Project, which researches the best way to decompose corpses. Later, they campaigned and bills passed in the state's lower house and upper house.

Ms. Spade is currently the executive director of Recompose, a company that intends to offer new-style burial services with a commitment to quickly transform the lost body into land.
