The earth is about to shake, raining diamonds everywhere?

Several continents on Earth show signs of tearing apart. This has happened many times in the past, accompanied by raining diamonds - quite literally.

According to Live Science, researchers have discovered a pattern where diamonds erupt from deep below the Earth's surface like giant fountains.

Not only does it explain why there are diamonds on Earth, the results show that it could happen again, when volcanoes not only pour lava and ash but also rain diamonds, just like in science fiction movies.

That is the process of continents being torn apart - said a group of scientists led by Professor Thomas Gernon from the University of Southampton (UK).

Diamonds are not naturally found near the surface where we can dig them up. They are formed 150km or more deep, brought to the surface by eruptions called kimberlites , possibly associated with the supervolcano Vesuvius that destroyed the Roman city of Pompeii.

The new model suggests something terrible enough to lead to a situation like tectonic activity.

The Earth's crust is not a single piece, but consists of about 20 large and small pieces that constantly move, slide over each other, rise up or are pressed down. On the back of the plates, continents and oceans are carried. They are the reason why the planet's land has repeatedly merged into supercontinents and then broken up into many continents.

It is the breakup of large continents that has prompted the eruption of diamonds, for example the "death" of the supercontinent Pangaea or Godwana hundreds of millions of years ago.

"Diamonds have been lying at the bottom of continents for hundreds of millions, even billions of years. There must be some stimulus that suddenly pushes them out," Professor Gernon explained.

Diamond eruptions peaked 22-30 million years after a continental breakup.

The tearing apart thinned the continental base, and the top of the crust was stretched, creating rift valleys like those we see in Africa or South America today. Hot rock rose up, came into contact with the now-broken boundary, cooled, and sank rapidly, creating a kick that drove currents.

The resulting compression caused diamonds and other deep materials to be ejected right into the middle of the continent. This impact spread out to the edges of the continents.

The Earth currently has many continents and there are signs that it is on the way to creating 1 or 2 new supercontinents. This merger process also requires splitting some of the current continents in two, for example Africa could split into 2-3 parts, drift apart and attach to the opposing North and South supercontinents.

It is very possible that this will cause a rain of diamonds - in the "near future " of the planet, about 200 million years - a long time in human life but just a blink of an eye in the history of the Earth.
