A penguin became famous all over Japan after escaping from an aquarium in Tokyo that was given a new name, after only months of being called by numbers.
The name of the bird is Sazanami.
Humboldt penguin number 337 is now called Sazanami, meaning "small wave" in Japanese, according to Tokyo Marine Aquarium.
"The penguin returned to the park when the tidal wave receded and that was another reason for us to name this," said one of the park's residents, adding that the name Sazanami read number 337 Japanese.
This male penguin had 82 days of wandering in Tokyo Bay in the intense hunting of zoo employees. Even Japanese coast guard forces participated in this hunt. Breeders do not know its gender until they get caught in May last year.
After that, the park launched a campaign asking tourists to name the penguin and this attracted 6,400 letters containing the potential name sent here.
