According to AFP, Ms Maryam Mirzakhani, an expert in geometry study of unusual shapes, has found a new way to calculate the volume of objects with hyperbolic surfaces with strange shapes. ICM honors Mirzakhani for its unique contributions in the field of geometry and motivational systems.

"Mirzakhani is proficient in mathematics and mathematical culture in a wide range. She embodies the rare combination of optimal technical ability, great ambition, profound vision and enthusiasm to learn. " , AFP quoted the announcement of the International Mathematical Council (ICM).

Born in Tehran, Mirzakhani earned his doctorate at Harvard University in 2004 and is currently a professor at Stanford University (California, USA). She has won various awards such as the 2009 Blumenthal Award for advancement in mathematical research, the 2013 Mathematical Satter Award of the American Mathematical Association.

The Fields Prize is awarded every 4 years for 4 mathematicians under 40 years old. The other three owners of the Fields Medal are mathematician Artur Avila (France), Mr. Manjul Bhargava from Princeton University (New Jersey, USA), and Mr. Martin Hairer (University of Warwick, England).
