The first person to fly freely outside the universe died

In 1984, American astronaut Bruce McCandless went into history when he became the first person to fly freely outside space. This 'inspiring generations of American' character has just died at the age of 80.

Johnson Space Center of the US Aeronautics Agency (NASA) announced on December 22 that the famous astronaut Bruce McCandless had died the day before in California, 80 years old, according to the AP.

Mr. McCandless is the character in the famous photograph taken in 1984, when he flew freely out of space with a flying device behind him. Mr. McCandless and astronaut Robert Stewart were the first two people to test this device.

Mr. McCandless then moved more than 90m from Challenger. Mr. Stewart walked this space two hours later.

'It was very cold. My teeth kept hitting each other and my whole body was shaking, but it was only a small thing. I was very well trained. I just felt eager to go out there and fly. Extremely comfortable! ' Mr. McCandless talked about his journey back in 2006.

In 2015, he wrote in The Guardian newspaper that the trip gave him a great feeling, 'blending his pride and pride at work' , the feeling that he had spent years new.

Senator John McCain, Mr McCandless's classmate at the US Naval Academy expressed regret about his friend's departure.'The iconic image of Bruce flying easily in space inspires generations of Americans, so that they believe that human potential is limitless,' McCain said.
