The first solar airport in India
Cochin International Airport in India has launched a solar system with more than 46,000 panels that last up to 25 years.
India's first airport uses solar energy
It is the fourth largest airport in India and the first airport in the world to use solar energy. The solar project is co-funded and run by the Indian government.
According to the Huffington Post, the project took six months to build with a budget of $ 10 million. The airport is expected to return after five years. 46,000 panels in the 12 megawatt solar power system are set up on an area of over 20 hectares. The project was designed and installed by Bosch.

The Indian government has called on other Indian airports to study the Cochin International Airport 's solar model to reduce greenhouse gases and enhance renewable energy.
The Economic Times reports that Cochin has tested solar power in March 2013 by installing a solar station at the roof of the station.
India's goal is to achieve 100 gigawatts of solar power by 2022, while the current capacity is 4 gigawatts. Solar energy accounts for about 3% of renewable energy in India, and renewable energy is expected to account for 15% by 2022.
