Amanda Nguyen, 32 years old, Vietnamese American, graduated from Harvard University and interned at the US Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) in 2013. She also worked at the Harvard Center for Astrophysics- Smithsonian.

In 2014, she founded RISE - a non-profit organization representing the rights of people who have experienced sexual assault across the United States. She is also known to advocate for the rights of Asian Americans.

She was a victim of sexual assault. In the process of fighting to protect herself, she drafted and campaigned for a bill of rights for victims like herself.

Former US President Barack Obama signed the decision to implement Amanda's bill in October 2016, after it was approved by the National Assembly.

Thanks to her tireless efforts, Amanda Nguyen was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize in 2019 and was honored by Time magazine as Woman of the Year 2022.

"I am Vietnamese. I fly into space so that young Vietnamese girls can see themselves among the stars. The important thing is that I can take the community with me. I can be the first first but will not be the last ," Ms. Amanda Nguyen shared in a video on the Facebook page of the US Embassy in Hanoi.
