Most terrestrial animals walk forward, but many species, including insects, can recoil after seeing an obstacle or enemy ahead.

The late pop legend Michael Jackson is best known for his backward slipping technique, called the moonwalk, but long-standing scientists still struggle to understand how the brain instructs. Let the body go backwards.

To decipher this problem, experts from the Institute of Molecular Pathology in Vienna (Austria) have created 3,500 different lines of fruit flies, with each gene being designed differently based on parts of the brain coincides when reacting to temperature, a technique called thermal genetics .

Each version affects specific nerves when responding to temperature, from which behavior becomes different in each case, according to Phys.Org.

After several hundred attempts, they found a line that could fly backwards as the temperature rises, and based on this specimen, experts began mapping the reverse control nervous system.
