Fruit flies detect cancer cells

The researchers used the ability to perceive the smell of fruit flies to distinguish (find out) different types of cancer cells compared to normal cells and are able to classify different cancer cells.

The group of scientists at Konstanz University led by Dr. Giovanni Galizia published their findings in Scientific Report, which is the way to utilize the sense of smell of the transgenic Drosophilae to distinguish the cell type.

Flies of the fly will sense the next smell, which is the chain of reaction to the nerve cell under the microscope that will produce a fluorescence technique to distinguish the healthy or diseased cells.

Researchers have used techniques and neural models to compare healthy cells and five different types of breast cancer cells.

The UPI news website quoted Alja Lüdke, a member of the research team, saying that the technique allows not only to distinguish disease cells from normal cells but also to differentiate the types of cancer cells through the flies' whiskers vinegar.

Dr. Giovanni Galizia stated that this is a very new and spectacular thing that gives results with quantification and test results with extremely high sensitivity from a living being without the need for an electronic nose or gas chromatography.
