Unexpected discoveries of tiny fruit flies
When frightened or in an emergency situation, fruit flies react abnormally quickly. They will throw their wings, tilt and spin in mid-air like a super-tiny fighter jet with respectable speed - faster than a blink of an eye.

In the study published in the April 10 issue of Science, scientists say fruit flies have a special "sensor" that helps them avoid obstacles on their flight path.
Experts have installed three super-speed cameras to monitor and analyze the fly's flight movements in different situations. The results show that normally, the velocity of the fruit fly's wings is about 200 times per second. However, when threatened and frightened, they can accelerate very fast and turn the direction of flying in just 1 in 100 seconds, 50 times faster than a blink of a human eye.
The fruit fly has the scientific name of Drosophila hydei, which is about the size of sesame seeds but has an extraordinary visual system - "talisman" that helps them survive in a world of enemies. The fruit fly's brain is very sophisticated, enabling them to quickly identify hazards and find their way out.
Although the brain of a fruit fly is as small as a grain of salt, it is a complex machine that works similarly to the brains of large animals like mice.
