The giant galaxy is 12.5 billion light-years from Earth
The giant galaxy is hidden behind a cloud of dust and gas and has a rate of formation of 100 times more stars than the Milky Way.
Christina Williams, an astronomer at the University of Arizona, discovered a dim area in a new image of the ALMA telescope system, Chile, CNN reported on October 22."It's mysterious because it seems that this light is not related to any known galaxy. When I saw the new galaxy 'invisible' at other wavelengths, I was excited because it meant it could be in extremely far and behind clouds of dust, " she shared.

Most likely the light from the dust particles is heated as new stars form inside the galaxy. However, dust clouds obscure stars, making it impossible for us to see galaxies from Earth.
"We found it to be a giant" monster "galaxy containing many stars like the Milky Way but more active. New stars form at a rate 100 times faster than the Milky Way" , Ivo Labbé, experts at Swinburne University of Technology, said.
The new discovery could help scientists find an answer to a long-standing problem. In the early universe, some giant galaxies grew extremely fast. They mature when the universe is still young. The puzzling thing is that these seemingly mature giant galaxies appear suddenly. Astronomers have never found any clear evidence of their formation. The newly discovered "monster" galaxy has the appropriate elements to fill that gap, " Williams explained.
Experts need to determine if this is just a fluke or a lot of similar galaxies."These obscure galaxies are really fascinating. They leave you wondering if this is the tip of the iceberg and a series of new galaxies waiting to be discovered , " said Kate Whitaker, co. Study author, comment.
When the James Webb telescope flew into space in 2021, it could help understand galaxies more closely."James Webb can see through the dust cloud, help us know the true size and growth rate of these galaxies, thereby understanding why current models cannot explain them , " Williams said. more.
