The hug lasts 5,000 years

Italian archaeologists were extremely surprised to discover the bones of a couple who were buried 5,000-6,000 years ago in a tight embrace.

" It's an incredible case ," said Elena Menotti, head of excavation in the northern city of Mantova. " No one has ever discovered a couple of men and women buried together in the Neolithic period, not to mention those two people are hugging each other ".

Menotti said that the couple had died very young because their teeth were almost intact and undamaged."I have been doing this for 25 years. I have been digging in many famous places, both in Pompeii, but I have never been so touched when I discovered this special case," Menotti said.

The team will continue to study to determine the age of the couple and how long they have been lying on the ground.
