The most expensive Asian cities in the world

Asia has 6 representatives in the top 10 most cost-effective cities in the world, led by Hong Kong (China).

Mercer Human Resource Consulting (UK) has published a 2018 Cost of Living report of 209 cities around the world. These locations are evaluated according to the annual survey results on the cost of more than 200 popular goods and services, such as housing, transportation, food, clothing, household appliances and leisure facilities. . All will then be compared to New York (USA) and ranked.

This year, Hong Kong was the leading city , replacing Luanda (Angola) last year. On average, the price of a pair of jeans here is about $ 120, while a cup of coffee is about $ 8.

Other representatives from Asia also dominated the top 10, including Tokyo (2), Singapore (4), Seoul (5), Shanghai (7) and Beijing (9). The remaining names are Zurich (3) and Luanda (6).

Vietnam has 2 evaluated cities, Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. Globally, Hanoi ranked 137th in the expensive level, down 37 grades compared to last year. Meanwhile, the cost of living in Ho Chi Minh City decreased by 27 places, to 124. In the period 2013 - 2015, the British research firm still rated living costs in Hanoi higher than in Ho Chi Minh City.

According to Mercer, the fluctuation in exchange rates has led Asian cities to the top . Meanwhile, Angola's devaluation pushed Luanda to sixth this year. China's economic growth and efforts to internationalize the yuan also helped Chinese cities to rise this year.
