The skeleton was found in the town of La Noria in Chile's Atacama desert in 2003 and was named Ata .
At first, many people thought that this was a skeleton that had existed for a long time but analysis in 2012 showed that it was only about 40 years old, meaning that DNA could still be analyzed.
With an unusually small size and bone structure of a child of about 7 years of age, Ata became famous and suggested many alien theories. This skeleton has only 10 pairs of ribs instead of 12 pairs like normal people, increasing the mystery.
Based on the five-year genetic analysis, scientists have determined that Ata is the skeleton of a girl with a genetic mutation and may have been born prematurely . The results also show that this is a girl of South American origin.
The skeleton is owned by a Spanish archaeologist. Scientists are calling this person to return the skeleton to Chile to be buried in accordance with local customs.
