A group of scientists led by Dr. Vladimir Pešić from the University of Montenegro (Montenegro Republic) discovered this tiny creature in Bajo de Sico, a coral reef ecosystem of the Mona Passage, Puerto Rico.
The Sci-News magazine quoted Dr. Vladimir Pešić as saying that the reason behind the unusual choice for the name of the new creature is because Jennifer Lopez's songs help the research team to remain excited when just wrote a scientific report on this case and just watched the 2014 World Cup.
Litarachna lopezae belongs to the pontachnid family , a group of marine animals that are quite widespread but still continue to be studied because people do not know much about their life cycle. Samples were collected at a depth of 70m, which is the deepest place this species has been found to date.
