The new galaxy is located in a strange sphere in the Magellanic cloud

The study shows that the Hydrus 1 galaxy is elliptical and light, located about 90,000 light-years from the sun and about 78,000 light-years from the LMC Cloud.

The international team of astronomers recently reported the discovery of a new dwarf galaxy in Magellanic Bridge - a stream of gas that connects two Magellanic clouds, found in the constellation Hydrus.

The new Hydra 1 galaxy was discovered by a team of researchers led by Sergey E. Koposov of Carnegie Mellon University, using a Dark Energy Camera (DECAM) placed on the Blanco Telescope 4 m at the Intercontinental Observatory America Cerro-Tololo (CTIO) in Chile to observe the area between the Small Cloud (SMC) and the Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC).

Analysis of the spectral data obtained by DECAM led to the identification of a new super-fuzzy dwarf galaxy.

The study shows that the Hydrus 1 galaxy is elliptical and light, located about 90,000 light-years from the sun and about 78,000 light-years from the LMC Cloud . The galaxy has absolute magnitude –4.7 half-circle radius of 163 light-years, and the surface brightness is noticeably brighter.

According to astronomers, these parameters indicate that Hydrus 1 is more likely to be a dwarf galaxy, however, it could also be an extended globular cluster.

Observations show that Hydrus 1 has a poor, star-metal complex with some blue branch stars and two star variables RR Lyrae.

This system is predominantly dark matter, suggesting it could be a globular cluster with a small amount of dark matter or a dwarf galaxy that lost some dark matter caused by the tide.

Research shows that Hydrus 1 is quite poor at metal, with an average metal content of –2.5. It is worth noting that this system has an extremely rich, slightly more metallic star with carbon strength with a level of about -3.0.
