The only marine turtle hospital in the world

A village in Hainan Province (China) has the world's only sea turtle floating hospital to care for this endangered animal, according to UPI news agency.

The hospital is located in Xincun port, where there is a floating village in which residents rarely land and live in small bungalows built on fishing rafts.

The hospital was founded by Fredericl C. Yeh, a Chinese-American who graduated from John Hopkins University Medical School in 2005.

With the original plan to become a doctor, in a trip to visit Hainan in 2007, Yeh discovered sea turtles sold for meat and tomorrow at local markets.

Deciding to change his career path, in 2008, Yeh founded Sea Turtle 911 , a non-governmental organization dedicated to rescuing marine turtles in Hainan.

In the past four years, Yeh and a group of volunteers have saved more than 150 turtles, about two-thirds of them have been released to the sea.

In addition to rescuing sea turtles, Yeh's group also organizes training courses to rescue sea turtles, mobilize children and families to join efforts to protect this rare animal.
