The only way to observe eclipse in the decade in Vietnam

People in all three regions of the North, Central and South can directly observe the solar eclipse that takes place this weekend. This is the only eclipse observed in the whole territory of Vietnam in the next 11 years.

At the end of this week, Vietnamese astronomy lovers will have a chance to witness a partial eclipse. This is what happens when viewed from Earth at the time the Moon passes between the Earth and the Sun. At this time, the Moon will completely or partially obscure the Sun.

This eclipse will take place with annular, in the proportion of 27 - 29% depending on the location. The time of partial solar eclipse is more than 1 pm. The entire partial eclipse process will take more than 3 hours.

There will be an annular eclipse in this weekend in Vietnam.

Solar eclipse is a very rare natural phenomenon. After this arrival, it was not until 2031 that the northern provinces could see an eclipse again on a large scale. Meanwhile, in the southern provinces, people will have the opportunity to witness 3 more eclipses in the next 10 years.

Compared to other astronomical phenomena, observing an eclipse is quite simple because the telescope is not required. The observer only needs a view large enough and the sky clear to see the Sun.

During a solar eclipse, radiation from sunlight can adversely affect the eyes due to longer observation periods than usual. Therefore, viewers should not observe the Sun with the naked eye during a solar eclipse.

People should not use telescopes such as telescopes and binoculars to observe the sun directly because they can significantly increase the intensity of radiation that comes into contact with the eyes.

Solar observers should not look directly at the sun, but should use a special type of glasses (solar glasses).

When observing an eclipse, viewers need to prepare a light filter for the eyes or a specialized filter layer (sun filter) if observing with a telescope. Sun filters must be made separately, and users should not make this filter themselves because the quality cannot be guaranteed.

Filters designed specifically for direct observation of solar eclipses are called solar  glasses. They usually have cardboard frames and sell for between 10,000 and 20,000 VND. Just search for the term 'eclipse watch glasses' and you can easily buy these glasses online.

However, users need to ask the origin of the glass of the place of sale, away from homemade glasses because it may not guarantee safety. When buying glasses, you should also check that they are exposed by exposing them to a strong light source.

In addition to direct observation, viewers can also indirectly observe the eclipse by projecting the image of the Sun on a blank sheet of paper.

These glasses are not intended to replace the specialized filter layer (sun filter) for the telescope. During the observation process, users need to keep the glasses close to the eyes to avoid the rays of direct sunlight from the eyes.

Viewers can also observe the eclipse indirectly by placing a cover with a small hole in front of binoculars, a telescope (or making a carton box with a carton), and then projecting the image of the Sun on a blank sheet of paper.
