The mother tiger named Damai is considered by many people to be "a great mother" when raising both tigers well. According to conservationists, this tiger's gestation period lasts 100 days. When born, the tiger tiger weighs 2kg.

The birth of the tiger at the Smithsonian Zoo contributed to the number of Sumatran tigers in North American zoos up to 70.
When the mother tiger Damai began to gain weight in June last year, it was closely monitored by zoo staff. Tiger's father is 12-year-old Kavi. Damai and Kavi had two years of studying each other before doing mating.
Craig Saffoe, a biologist at the park, said they were worried when Damai and Kavi reached their reproductive age. If they don't notice each other when they mate, they can hurt each other or worse.
Sumatran tiger lives mainly in Sumatra island, Indonesia. This species is increasingly declining in quantity due to destruction of habitat and human hunting. Currently the number of Sumatran tigers in the wild only ranges from 400 to 500. Conservationists recommend strict protection measures to prevent this species from becoming extinct.
