The road itself glows at night thanks to solar energy

A road in Poland recently covered with phosphorescent particles capable of absorbing sunlight in the daytime and thereby emitting light at night until 10pm.

Energy-saving lighting solutions become very important in city areas. These light-emitting roads will help save financial costs to keep traffic and order safe.

In the Pruszków area, Poland has built a road capable of emitting blue light during the night. This glowing path is built by technology installation company TPA Sp. ZOO. TPA's chairman and CEO, Igor Ruttmar, explained that these glowing particles are called luminophere and are mixed with asphalt. They will absorb sunlight during the day and then continuously shine at night until 10 pm.

"We hope that the glowing path for glowing bicycles will help prevent and alleviate accidents at night," Rumatt explained.

This product is inspired by the beautiful solar bike path of the art organization Studio Roosegaarde in the Netherlands.

However, unlike the road in the Netherlands using solar LED lights, this new road in Poland does not need an external power source. The design is currently being tested to consider its bearing capacity and water.

According to TPA president Igor Ruttmar: "The material we use to make this road can provide light for more than 10 hours. This means that this road can light up all night and recreate the light on the day. after".

This new material can emit a variety of colors, but designers chose blue because it blends well with the surroundings at Lidzbark Warminski.

TPA has long been studying the use of colors and light for traditional asphalt roads, but the biggest challenge is ensuring the sustainability of new materials and optimizing production costs. The company is experimenting with developing citrus aroma, strawberry and rose.

To be able to glow at night, the road is scanned with waterproof luminescent layers called Starpath , absorbing sunlight during the day and glowing at night. Technology using Starpath coating consists of three layers, a polyurethane coating, then to the light and durable absorbing layer, not the water fungus at the top. With non-reflective and non-slip capabilities, Starpath coating lines will help improve night vision for traffic participants and limit accidents.

The Starpath overlay is currently being tested on a road in Christ's Pieces park in Cambridge, England. Pro-Teq, the manufacturer and tester of the glowing line, said it took about 30 minutes to scan the luminescent material and could walk on the road in less than an hour afterwards. In addition to the feature applied on concrete roads, Starpath is also used to coat wood surfaces or any solid surface.
