The saved cat lives on dog blood

New Zealand veterinarians have saved a cat's life after this "patient" has had surgery and dog blood transfusions.

This rare incident happened on August 22, when Rory the cat was brought to Wellington Veterinary Hospital by his owner in a state of death due to eating poisonous rat poison.

In order to save the life of the cat Rory the doctors determined that the only way was to transmit blood. However, at that time, the hospital did not have reserves of blood and cats, so the doctors decided to use dog blood - the 'archenemy' of cats.

In cats blood does not contain antibodies that can be resistant to dog blood. However, the transmission of dog blood into cats is done only once, because once again it can be fatal to cats.
