The stone painting is 12,800 years old
Archaeologists have identified the date of Britain's oldest rock painting found in Creswell Grags and said it dates back more than 12,800 years.
The team of archaeologists from three universities, Bristol, Sheffield and Open, dated this painting by measurements based on the trace of uranium radioactivity in the limestone samples on the drawing.
Archaeologists say they found many drawings on the walls and ceilings of caves in 2003. Pictures depict animals such as Europe's bison, now extinct in the UK. , and other drawings.
The drawings were created by groups of hunters in the Ice Age and dug up from Creswell's caves dating from 13,000-15,000 years ago. This new result shows that art may have been born very early by those who made these paintings.
