The US finds drugs that defeat Alzheimer's disease

According to Nature Chemistry magazine, a group of scientists at the University of California, USA, found a drug that could be defeated.

It is known that one of the main characteristics of Alzheimer's disease is the accumulation in the brain of the so-called beta-amyloid protein , causing cognitive impairment. It produces plaque and binds to proteins on the surface of brain cells, leading to mass cell death.

The drug discovered by scientists works to prevent these plaque from sticking to brain cells and thus, saving brain cells. Researchers were able to find the location of the beta-amyloid array associated with the protein by determining the three-dimensional structure of the compound and surface cell proteins.

Dr. Lin Jiang shared: 'We look for a drug that can act as a shield, blocking the binding of beta-amyloid to brain cells and thus protecting them from destruction.' .

To find a suitable substance, scientists studied more than 32,000 different drugs, of which the most promising is ALI6 . Scientists tested the drug on mice. In the trials, the drug almost completely stopped dead cells from beta-amyloid.

In addition, according to scientists, ALI6 has two important features. In particular, it is not toxic to humans and can penetrate from the bloodstream into the brain , and this is one of the most important characteristics of drugs to fight Alzheimer's disease.

Scientists emphasize that in order to confirm the effectiveness of the drug, it is still necessary to conduct a series of further tests with animals before testing on humans.
