The 'weirdest desert in the world': The golden sand dunes are nowhere to be seen, only a lake with fish and shrimp
In the human mind, the desert is always a barren, desolate land, everywhere is golden sand, where there is no life. But this particular desert is not like that. That desert not only has a lake, but also fish and shrimp live, the landscape is extremely beautiful.
Anyone who mentions the desert will say that the desert is a desolate, desolate place, everywhere is golden sand and extremely hot. But nothing is without exception, so is the desert.
The Lençóis Maranhenses desert is known as the most beautiful desert in the world. At the same time, it is also said to be the most 'weird' desert in the world. Because half is sea and half is desert, breaking people's inherent perception of deserts.
This desert covers an area of about 1000km2.
This desert in the state of Maranhão, in the northeastern region of Brazil is actually a beautiful national park, covering an area of about 1000km2. Every year, here still receives a certain amount of rain. Therefore, it is not actually considered a desert, but locals are still used to calling it that.
The Lençóis Maranhenses desert is considered the most magical place. In the rainy season, from January to June every year, this place is like a dream paradise. After the rain, thousands of large and small lakes appear, hidden among the fine sand dunes, the lake water is so clear that the bottom can be seen. This is also the filming location of the planet Vormir in the famous movie "The Avengers".
The Lençóis Maranhenses desert is a very 'weird' desert. The sea lies in the desert, or in other words, thousands of large and small lakes have divided the desert, looking like green pearls placed in the middle of the vast desert. Therefore, this desert is also called with another name, 'desert of a thousand lakes'. When the sun rises, thousands and thousands of clear lakes will combine with the white sand dunes to create a beautiful oil painting.
Those who have been here know that, at different times of the day, the desert has different beauties, with sand dunes as long as ribbons, crescent-shaped dunes blown by the wind and affected by the wind. The dynamics of ocean currents can be up to 40 meters high.
In addition, the landscape of the Lençóis Maranhenses Desert changes once a year. When the rainy season ends in June, the desert will enter the dry season, the water in the lake will start to evaporate, and the water level can drop by an average of one meter within a month. During the dry season, from July to December, the northeast wind blows continuously, pushing the dunes inland, about 48 km deep, and creating towering sand dunes.
This desert is also known with another name, 'desert of a thousand lakes'.
The difference between the Lençóis Maranhenses desert and other ordinary deserts is that the rain forms clear bodies of water between the dunes. Despite its desert-like appearance, Lençóis Maranhenses National Park receives an annual rainfall of 1,600 milliliters, 300 times that of the Sahara.
Due to the abundant rainfall here, the formation of freshwater lakes among the sand dunes is quite common. When the rainy season is over, thousands of large and small lakes appear, hidden among the fine sand dunes. In particular, Green Lake is one of the most famous places in the park. This lake has thousands of small fish and visitors can swim in it.
During the dry season, the lakes may evaporate little or completely dry up, but in the rainy season, the lakes always become home to many species of fish, turtles and clams. And this is the most amazing thing, when the lake is full of water, the animals reappear as if they had never disappeared before.
Who says desert and water can't coexist? That's when you haven't seen the desert landscape in Brazil yet. Only seeing it with your own eyes can you understand what real vibration is, the phone can't capture its beauty at all.
