British media on September 8 (London time) simultaneously reported that Queen Elizabeth II had passed away at the age of 96.
"The Queen passed away peacefully at Balmoral this afternoon (September 8, local time)," Sky News quoted a statement from Buckingham Palace.
After the queen's death, Prince Charles, the former Prince of Wales, became king of the United Kingdom and the 14 territories of the Commonwealth.
