The world's longest and most lonely highway

Eyre is a thousand miles long, not a turn, where towns and holiday stations are scattered a few hundred kilometers apart.

Eyre Highway connects the two northwestern Australia and cuts across the vast bare limestone Nullarbor plain.

Eyre highway was started in July 1941. Along the way there are quite a number of spectacular landscapes, such as the vertical Bunda area higher than 100m on the edge of the plain, connecting directly to the North Sea. You will also admire the Dingo barrier, considered the longest fence in the world.

Because of the mountainous terrain, the road was built in a straight line along 1,675km from Port Augusta to Norseman, including the so-called "straightest, longest in the world".

Eyre is also considered the most lonely road in the world. If there are several towns in the east, such as Kimba, Wudinna and Ceduna, you will be almost unable to find any sign of life in the most westbound journey.

The most typical scenery here is the arid low-lying shrub terrain that stretches on both sides of the straight highway, sometimes with some bumpy short sections. The stations provide basic needs like fuel, food, rest . but not all stations are open all day.

The road between Balladonia and Caiguna is a straight line without a bend running 145.6km. The so-called "90 mile straight line" is Australia's longest straight path and is among the longest in the world.
