There will be vaccines for acne
The world's largest vaccine manufacturer, Sanofi-Pasteur, has signed a contract with the University of California (USA) to develop a vaccine for acne.
More than 85% of teens and over 40 million Americans suffer from acne.
The main culprit is bacteria in the gland secretion. Current acne treatments such as benzoyl peroxide, antibiotics . have bactericidal effects, but acne often reappears, and long-term use of antibiotics can lead to drug resistance, while drugs kill Bacteria can harm the skin.
A major difficulty in studying acne is that it is impossible to experiment with animals because of white mice, guinea-pigs . without acne. So researchers inject bacteria into the skin in mouse ears, causing swelling like pimples. As a result, vaccinated mice did not have ear swelling as in the control group.
The team also used another method: making vaccines from a protein called CAMP that bacteria use to kill host cells. They found CAMP gene in the gene sequence of acne-causing bacteria.
