Multi-purpose worm robots can turn into everything

The trend of 2015 is "all in one" , each device is equipped with many features. Researchers at MIT have recently designed a very special robot model, from appearance to what it can do.

Called Lineform , this versatile robot has a long "worm" shape developed by a group of MIT researchers. Its structure consists of a series of dozens of small motors controlled by a mini computer named Arduino Mega. It is like a worm with many burns, and can freely transform, each of its shapes will have a different use.

For the purpose of creating a unique device for users, researchers created this first version of Lineform. The question is, does a device like this really meet everything we need?

Two Nakagaki and Follmer researchers believe in it, but say it will need the support of many other things. Lineform can turn into a table lamp with connection to a bulb module, or a display device thanks to an additional screen or projector. That means, this robot takes on a brain with a flexible body, but it still needs to combine with many other components to create a versatile machine.

As the introduction video, Lineform will easily turn into a keyboard, phone or even a tool to help us practice. This robot also proved extremely smart when automatically changing to suggest actions for users, depending on the time set before.

An interesting point in the process of tracking this robot, is that it appears to be . afraid of humans . Lineform is often startled if the user uses it too quickly, or requires it to change shape continuously.

Of course, this MIT model is not ready for us to use today. It will take more time to complete this product, and when successful, each of us will have a "worm" wrapped around people everywhere, and used in every need of life.
