Toshiba Announces New Battery Technology Charged For 6 Minutes

Toshiba recently announced its next-generation high-capacity rechargeable battery (SCiB) technology, which is capable of fast charging at fast speeds. The battery pack uses anode material made from titanium dioxide niobium. Toshiba said the battery could provide twice as much storage capacity as the current lithium-ion battery.

The 50Ah trial version of this new technology battery can be charged within 6 minutes. Toshiba claims a 32 kWh SCiB battery that can run up to three times the distance of regular lithium-ion battery trains during the same 6-minute charging cycle.

But the charging time is only part of the battery. Anyone who regularly plugs the phone several times knows that the number of charge cycles and durability also contribute to the creation of a good battery. Toshiba says its SCiB battery will retain 90% of its original capacity after 5000 cycles of charging, and if you charge it once a day, it will last for 14 years. In addition, it can be quickly charged at ambient temperatures below 14 degrees Fahrenheit, although the time may be longer.

Toshiba is not the first company to announce a breakthrough in battery technology in order to attract more people to buy electric cars. Toshiba plans to commercialize the battery technology in 2019. However, the company has yet to mention the cost of SCiB batteries.
