Transplanting pig heart for monkey

A group of scientists in Seoul (South Korea), led by Dr. Lim Gio-Bin, has successfully performed a heart transplant surgery from a genetically modified pig into a monkey's body. This is the first time a heterosexual transplant surgery (transplantation between different species) has been successfully done in Korea.

Before conducting a heterogeneous transplant surgery, scientists have created pigs that have removed the gene that controls the immune system to remove objects by cloning. Then, the pig's heart is inserted into the body of a monkey. As a result, the heart has not been excreted by the monkey body and can function normally.

According to Daily Mail, the purpose of the heterosexual transplant test between pigs and monkeys of Korean scientists is to use the heart and other organs of pigs to transplant into the human body in the future. The team believes this will become reality within the next 5 years.

'Our success has helped Korea become the second country in the world after the United States to replicate genetically modified pig clones that are resistant to rejection. We plan to test pig heart transplants on humans later this year and believe that the hearts of transgenic pigs can be used commercially in human transplants in 2017 , 'said Dr. Lim Gio-Bin. know.

The internal organs of pigs are very suitable for transplantation on the human body, but they are surrounded by sugar molecules that are quickly eliminated in the human body. The human body's immune system attacks sugar molecules and quickly destroys organs from pigs.
