Traveling through time 55 million years, a world similar to ours has materialized.

The European Southern Observatory (ESO) has just released spectacular images of a mirror world within the Milky Way galaxy, which contains Earth .

According to Space magazine , the galaxy in question is NGC 4254 , also known as Messier 99 , discovered in 1781 by the French astronomer Pierre Méchain. However, it wasn't until modern astronomical observation tools developed that the truth about this mysterious world located next to the constellation Leo was revealed.

The latest images from ESO, via the PHANGS survey project , show Messier 99 as a brilliant, luminous tuft of hair in the sky. More specifically, "this giant spiral galaxy shares many characteristics with the Milky Way, the galaxy containing Earth, with long, large, and well-defined spiral arms ," ​​according to NASA.

In the latest image from ESO, the "arms" of Messier 99 glow in red and orange light, representing clouds of cold gas preparing to transform into stars.

The shimmering purple and blue hues around these "arms" are stars scattered throughout the galaxies.

The images released by ESO are actually a combined dataset from two telescope systems, the Very Large Telescope (VLT) and ALMA , both owned by ESO and located in the remote regions of Chile, where they offer unobstructed views of the starry sky.

According to scientists, Messier 99 is an interesting subject of study because it could provide further clues about how stars form in the universe. VLT and ALMA are continuously collecting data about it.

Because Messier 99 is 55 million light-years away from us, the image just captured is not an image of reality, but rather an image "transcending time" from 55 million years ago.

NASA is also studying this galaxy through the Hubble Space Telescope.
