On 9/4, Department of Science and Technology of Ho Chi Minh City has accepted the topic "Research, manufacture fast kit to detect borax in food" by MSc. Phung Van Trung, Department of "Chemical Technology of Natural Compounds" - Institute of Chemical Technology, is the chairman of the project.

The objective of the research is to research and manufacture a simple, easy to use, cheap and quick test kit.

This borax test kit is made from filter paper impregnated with Curcumin saturated solution. Reacts with borax, Curcumin for clear, fast, color fastness and easy to carry. The indicator color becomes more visible after 30 minutes and remains in color after more than 5 days.

The limit of detection of borax of this kit is 50mg / kg. The higher the concentration of the sample, the faster the time of color is displayed. For models on the market, the time is only 4 minutes.

The kit consists of a vial and an acid vial, which only takes 3 steps to determine whether or not borax in the sample.

First press the test paper on the food so that the food liquid wetted about half a sheet of paper. Then, drip a few drops of the solution onto the wetted part. Wait a few minutes, if the test paper turns red, that is, in the sample with borax.

Welding is a type of chemical known under many different names such as Tinhal, Borax, Bong sa, eagle sa, raw stone . Scientific name of borax is Natrium biboricum (Borate hydraté de sodium), formula Study is Na ₂ B ₄ O7.10H ₂ O.

The welding is antiseptic and mildly irritating, so in the pharmaceutical industry, it is used to make mouthwash, toothpaste, and anti-fungal ointment (10-15%). In Eastern medicine, it is also used to hold sauces (1-2% solution) to rinse the mouth except for bad breath, sore throat .

Welding can cause vomiting, diarrhea, muscle spasms, erythema of the skin, mucous membranes, cardiopulmonary shock . Eating more can be fatal in a short time. In the long term, it can cause dry skin, stomach disorders, chronic kidney failure, dementia, testicular atrophy, even cancer.
